These winter chills got me wishing for summertime, and specifically, Sun-Kissed Salsa. I was there in April and to say I was impressed by that venue and that occasion is an understatement. I mean, dancing on a promenade with the Atlantic Ocean to your left, Lions Head peeking out to your right, and let’s not forget the appreciative audience, watching, applauding, and also enjoying the lively SBK rhythms.
This promenade, caught between the ocean and the mountains, is just majestic. When the sun sets – and you know how it sets forever in Cape Town – the orange streaks from the horizon glow within the azure, creating a once-off alfresco. Add to this a Kizomba beat, I was aroused.
I’ve danced Kizomba in a restaurant in Durban, at a craft market in Soweto and a 20-storey rooftop in the Joburg city centre, but nothing comes close to the appeal of that outdoor arena with its makeshift dance floor.

Awesome music and good partners are essential for a night out dancing, and here in Joburg, we have hotels, night clubs, unused factories, and restaurants that support these essences.
Sun-kissed Salsa offers more than is essential, it’s quintessential. Yes, that’s it. Quintessential. Kissed by the African sun.
