A Priority Check

Social dancing and writing about it was a top priority a year ago. I attended classes and parties at least four times a week, but my circumstances changed, and so did yours. And while I miss some faces I understand why you had to leave.

I need new pictures also.

Some of you study more, some work longer hours, a few have had a baby, others travel more and this absence of a few leads to exciting changes in the Salsa Bachata Kizomba (SBK) scene. And when I say changes I mean new faces.

The enthusiasm that the new ladies and gents bring is contagious but not infectious enough to get me to Rooftop on a Sunday or to BailaAfrika on a Monday cause that electric blanket is just so much more comforting than a woman moving in closer with Chiquinha tarraxinha.

Wait. Eish, I need to check my priorities and I’ll start with this blog because there was a time I was lost in dance (hence it is called Lose yourself to dance) and it was easy to write about the events, the socials ills and the fun that was had.

So I’ve had a few good experiences this year, the highlight so far was dancing at the Sun-kissed Salsa in Cape Town, but more of that later. BUT WAIT, I must add, without a doubt in my mind, that that venue is the most awesome dance space in South Africa.

Yes, I wrote that.

Recently, well this past Sunday, I had the pleasure of teaching Kizomba to friends that are interested in the dance. It just so happens that they can cook so the food was divine and the wine flowed, and now we have Sunday Lunch and Kizomba; strictly by invite only.

We danced until the late evening and I can confidently state that the SBK community will soon have five new Kizombies. They have embraced this Sunday Lunch and Kizomba concept and hopefully, a novel lifestyle will follow.

Talking about lifestyle, my priorities now are to write, teach, dance and be merry but not in that order. It all depends. My Mood. Their cooking. Winter. My Priorities depend on these factors. Check.
